Tell HN: Cookie-based security alerts are a dark pattern

In the wake of measures like the GDPR, it seems like websites are increasingly making it as arduous as possible not to let them keep long-term cookies on your computer. One particularly insidious dark pattern is to bombard people with notifications and e-mails on every sign-on unless they allow persistent cookies. Twitter is a particularly egregious offender. Amazon slightly less so. If you do this, stop it. It teaches people to ignore legitimate security alerts. A user clearing their cookies is not a security threat.
